- september 1916 strandaði danska seglskútan Elin á Hjaltabakkasandi, skammt frá Blönduósi. Skipið hafði komið þangað með saltfarm, en meðan á uppskipun stóð skall á hið versta veður. Kom brátt að því að skipið sleit festar sínar, rak inn með landinu og að lokum í strand. Brotnaði skipið lítið við strandið og áhöfnin bjargaðist öll ómeidd í land.
