Bænhús hefur verið á Gunnsteinsstöðum, og sér enn glögg merki fyrir kirkjugarðinum, en ekki vita menn, sem ég hef til náð, upp á víst, hvenær það hefur aflagst, eða hvaðmargir bæir hafa átt þangað sókn.

Á Gunnsteinsstöðum var kirkja helguð með Guði hinum heilaga Ólafi konungi. — 1471 var prestur þar. Þar var kirkja fram á 18. öld. — Við úttekt á Gunnsteinsstöðum 2. júní 1733, er kirkjan talin fyrst húsa, en orðin hrörleg.
