OBITUARY
John Robert Dunbar Harper

"Mr John Robert Dunbar Harper, who was widely known in the photographic world, died in Edinburgh yesterday [7.5.1947]. Seventy-one years of age, he had been in business in Leith fornearly half a century.

He was an Associate of the RoyalPhotographic Society, a past-president of the Edinburgh ProfessionalPhotographic Society, and held numerous appointments in connectionwith amateur societies.

Mr Harper, who had judged many Scottish international photographic salons over a long period ofyears, possessed a brilliant flair as an analytical critic, and wasan acknowledged expert on the cultural development of the use ofphotography. He had exhibited in many countries, and heldnumerous awards and diplomas.

He was managing director of JCampbell Harper Ltd. photographers and was a director of CampbellHarper Films Ltd.

He is survived by his widow and adaughter and son, the latter being closely identified with the filmbusiness."
