Foreldrar Ásu Sigurbjargar voru Hólmfríður Zóphoníasdóttir húsmóðir og Ásgeir Þorvaldsson múrarameistari. Þau bjuggu á Blönduósi og ólst Ása Sigurbjörg upp hjá þeim.
Systkini hennar voru níu talsins (og var hún þriðja í röðinni): Hrefna, látin, Sigríður, látin, Soffía, Arndís, tvíburarnir Olga, látin, og Þorvaldur, Helga Maggý, látin, Zóphonías og Valgarð. Þann 10. nóvember 1934 gengu þau Ólafur Þórir og Ása Sigurbjörg í hjónaband og bjuggu sér heimili í Reykjavík. Ólafur Þórir Jónsson var fæddur á Grettisgötu 35b í Reykjavík þann 28. október árið 1914. Hann lést í Landspítalanum 30. mars 1996. Foreldrar hans voru Jón Ólafsson rafvirkjameistari og Jóhanna Jónsdóttir húsmóðir.
Þau eignuðust sex börn, þrjú þeirra létust ung en þrjú eru á lífi, þau eru:
1) Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir hjúkrunarfræðingur, búsett í Bandaríkjunum, f. 20.9. 1936, gift Braga Sigfússyni, þau eiga fjögur börn, Ragnhildi, f. 9.2. 1956, hún á tvö börn, Jón Kristin, f. 9.2.1957, hann á fjögur börn, Þóri, f. 31.8 1958, hann á tvö stjúpbörn, og Hrefnu, f. 22.9. 1969
2) Hrefna Maren hjúkrunarfræðingur, búsett í Bandaríkjunum, f. 21.10. 1937, gift Bruce Denmark, þau eiga tvo syni, Andrew, f. 22.4. 1972, og Richard, f. 26.4. 1974.
3) Ásgeir Þór rafveitustjóri, f. 10.5. 1947, kvæntur Kristínu Árnadóttur, þau eiga fjögur börn, sveinbarn, f. 19.9. 1971, d. 13.11. 1971, Árna Ólaf, f. 12.3. 1973, Ásu Guðnýju, f. 9.7. 1977, og Þóru Kristínu, f. 17.12. 1979
Barnabarnabörn þeirra eru fimm talsins.
