Félagið er stofnað með lögum 20. apríl 1903 í þeim tilgangi að bæta innlent hrossakyn að stærð, . kröptum, lit og fegurð. Hlutabréf íélagsins eru 30 að tölu, hvert upp á 50 krónur og hljóða upp á handhafa. Upphæð hlutabréfanna er greidd að 4/5 hlutum, en Vs greiðist fyrir lok aprílmánaðar 1905.
Í stjórn félagsins eru: Gísli ísleifsson sýslumaður, Júlíus Halldórsson héraðslæknir, Guðmundur Björnsson cand. juris, Magnús Steindórsson sjálfseignarbóndi og Hermann Jónasson alþingismaður.
